September 1st 2008 ~ Oops

Embarassing as it may be, I'll have to postpone the next comic update for another three days. I hope to post new pages on Thursday, until then please don't leave us. @_@ I know it sucks having to wait for new pages for so long, however due to my work and my general lack of organization I could not managae to edit the new pages just yet! I am honestly very, very sorry...

PS, Tarito Fairytale is now available in German book- and comic stores. Please check it out! There's a mention of Yanlin in the book, also. :)

Just a short notice to let folks know The Tale of Yanlin is now also available on DrunkDuck. This does not really mean anything for readers of this website, as you get full access to everything about Yanlin right here - however, those of you with DrunkDuck accounts might be interested, for now you can express your love for this webcomic by recommending it to other DD users and stuff. Spread the love!

                                                          New page: Page 41

It seems Yanlin can not stand up to her father very well...

                                                        I haven't disappeared!
I'm very sorry for skipping the Thursday update like that, everyone,
I currently have a freelance gig I'm working on - unfortunately, due to this, the updating schedule for my comic has to come second. As a result, this comic is also going on a (very short) hiatus, updates will resume on Monday, the 1st of September.
I will be back with new pages by that date, until then I thank you for understanding!
On the upside, I've got an exclusive vote incentive for you this week:

Top Webcomics: A never-seen before teaser for my upcoming publication Tarito Fairytale, which will hit German book and comic stores on August 29 (My birthday! Woohoo!), put together by yours truely. You're the first to see the inside of this comic, other than my editors, that is! :)
Buzz Comics: Continuing last update's dress-up scheme - Yanlin wearing a Qipao (also known as China Dress).

On a closing note, this site is a member of the Rubifruit Banner Exchange, a linking program dedicated entirely to websites by and for women! Lots of webcomics just as cool as this one are listed here, so why not click the banner below and check some of them out?

Yanlin tries to argue with her father.

New vote incentives have also been posted!
Top Webcomics:Sketch of Yanlin wearing a Kimono
Buzz Comics: ...and one of her wearing a Vietnamese Ao Dai (and a funny hat).

It's fun to treat my heroine like a dress-up doll! It must be my girly side breaking through. To be fair, traditional Asian garments are fun to draw, and stylish to boot! I love that "stylish" and "pompous" never excluded each other in that part of the world, you can't really say the same thing about the many epochs of European fashion and aesthetics in general. (It is a mystery why nowadays nouveau-rich Chinese decorate their houses with our terrible golden chandeliers and whatnot. x_x)

                                                          New pages: Page 38 & 39

Yanlin's father sure is a strict man!

So, finally, the new pages are here. Again, I am very sorry for the delay. I'm too unorganized for my own good!
On a related note, somehow, the first chapter has gotten quite a bit longer than was planned originally. (Which brings us back to my lack of organization, I guess...) We are almost at page 40 and important things have yet to happen - I do hope you readers are still with me?

                                                        See you all on Monday!

                                                          New page: Page 37

A strong reaction?

Why do I have to do my taxes why why why. I see those forms and I want to cry.
Again, I only have one vote incentive for this update:

                                                        Top Webcomics: My attempt at a photo-realistic CG of Yanlin. I wanted to draw a background too, but uuh. ;_;

I try to maintain a two-updates - three pages rythmn with this comic. The last four updates went like 2 pages - 2 pages - 1 page - 1 page, so it evens out, I guess. On Thursday it will be time for another two page update, though! See you then.

Mucho importante! As of today, I am running vote incentives on both, Buzz Comics and Top Webcomics. That means by voting for this comic (by clicking on the buttons to your right) you get access to special gift pictures I upload for you. Also, you can vote every day, although there will not be new gifts every day. However, if you are feeling generous... :3

                                                        Current incentives:
Buzz Comics: An early character sketch of Yanlin in color, with some musings on the character.
Top Webcomics: Another early sketch, also colored.

Two men meet again after a long time.

The heat makes it hard to concentrate on work these days. I can pretty much only draw with a bucket of cold water right under my drawing desk. I stick my feet in it -> instant cool-off! (Gotta be creative when you don't have an air conditioner.)

Unrelated:
Thanks to my friend for pointing out that 'commissions' is spelled with two m's rather than one, will have to fix that. Ahem...

Yesterday, I knocked over a bowl with seafood, spilling oil over my desk and, stupidly, my Wacom tablet. I was able to clean it up OK, however, the freaking PEN also caught some oil and has since stopped working properly. Maaaybe I will need to buy a new one.

Today, I knocked over my ink bottle, spilling black ink EVERYWHERE, including on a comic page. Oh, and the carpet. Maybe I'll need a new carpet, too!

(PS, as you can see I added a comments function to this site, so you can comment on the comic or say hello to me or sumthing. I always love to hear from my visitors!)

                                                          Two new pages: Page 29 & 30

As the old man leaves the family of Cheng, a mysterious character makes his appearance.

Hiroaki Samura is amazing. His drawings of scenery look like he just doodles away and no matter how messy, the result somehow conveys more atmosphere than most artists could manage using colors, and it is always amazing. (Or maybe it's his assistants who are amazing, I don't know.)

Unfortunately, I am not Hiroaki Samura, but I am very thankful he was around to inspire me!

Yanlin's father sees of his guest, the mysterious geezer of the organization called Long Qi Shi.

Well, It's not exactly monday here, is it! Sadly, Detta-time is not always the same as normal time. Since I'm a night worker, when I say will update on Monday it might actually mean that I'm going to update on Tuesday at 4AM in the morning. That still feels like Monday to me...! I guess I can console myself with the fact that for about 70% of my readership, it is in fact still Monday right now. But in all seriousness, I have to work on this. @_@ A decent sleep pattern would be a nice thing to have, too.

Although going to bed with the other commoners would mean I can't watch Anderson Cooper like I usually do around this time of the day - and I would miss the sunrise...!

My life is a bit sad sometimes.

P.S.: As you can see to the right I have added a space for Project Wonderful ads to this page, however it is still empty. So if you are a Project Wonderful member, why not improve this site's visuals with your banner? Since there are no bidders yet, it's free for ya. :)

                                                    July 17th 2008 ~ Grand move & reopening

                                                      New page: Page 27

Unbe-fricking-lievable! As of July 17 in 2008, The Tale of Yanlin has risen from the grave and is now very much alive and kicking at its new, very own domain Taleofyanlin.com! Isn't that a cause for celebration!

As for where the heck I've been since February - to make it simple, I was buried in real work for the real world (and in fact, a new publication by yours truly will be available on shelves in Germany by the end of August) as well as some private issues that I won't go into here for now that were keeping me occupied - there have been some changes made to my life by myself, one of them being that I now want to devote more time to this webcomic than I have done before. This essentially means that, after resuming work on this comic I am now striving for biweeky updates, meaning I will try to provide you with at least one new page every Monday and Thursday. Let's see how this works out. To start off, there's one new page up - that's right, almost half a year in hiatus and all I have to show for it is one new page. To my defense, if I'd had the time to draw more I would have updated my site more frequently. More material will follow soon, though.

There have been other changes made to the site, too! Why don't you go exploring for a bit - additions have been made to pretty much every section. Brand new sections are the Story & Character Guide, the Comissions page (meaning you can now pay me to draw you stuff) and the store.
Another addition is the donations button which is a great way for you, the reader, to support this comic - if you deem it worthy - you also get a nifty, exclusive wallpaper for donating.

As soon as I can think of something else I really wanted to let you guys know, I'll post about it here. :O The next update is scheduled for Monday 21st, 'til then enjoy the new site!
